The success of every orienteering club depends on the availability of trained officials to put on orienteering events. These dedicated volunteers are a vital resource in helping clubs put on events that are safe, fun and properly planned. When you engage in training to become an official, you gain valuable insights into the orienteering course planning process, which can enhance your own orienteering skills and knowledge.

The first level of training to become an Orienteering Official is the O100 Level, which trains you to put on local orienteering events at your club. Completing the training required is an easy process.  The training is done in two stages, which includes a theory and practical component. The theory portion of O100 training can be done entirely online in a self-paced format, and takes only a short time to complete.

If you are interested in becoming an official, please talk to your club leadership. This training is absolutely free and will enhance your skills as an active member of your club. Most clubs should have a club trainer/mentor who will help organize interested individuals to complete their officials training.

To get started, interested clubs should email learning@orienteering.ca to help their members gain access to the O100 Orienteering Officials Online Module. Once you have completed the online module, your club trainer/mentor will help guide you through the practical components to complete your certification process.
