Q&A

Q: What would you say is the most overlooked element of orienteering training and why?
A: Strength training and rehabilitation. A lot of orienteers find it boring, myself included; but in a sport like orienteering, it's so easy for sprains to occur, making strength training so important to prevent injuries while racing. Just 5-10 minutes a day makes a big difference.
Q: If you had one tip for young/beginning orienteers what would it be?
A: Never give up and use all the opportunities and resources available. It can be hard to find trainings and races in Canada, so try to make an effort to attend as many as possible.
Q: What is one thing you really want to work on in 2026?
A: Reading the map without losing running speed. I'd like to be able to focus more on keeping pace while running as opposed to slowing down while I read.
Q: Describe your ideal orienteering terrain?
A: Distinct, large contour features in open forest without stony ground.
