Q&A
Q: What would you say is the most overlooked element of orienteering training and why?
A: In orienteering, consistency is often the most overlooked part of training. Athletes may practice map reading or speed, but without steady repetition those skills don’t transfer to a consistent habit under pressure. Regular practice builds habits, sharpens decision-making, and prepares competitors to handle unexpected terrain smoothly. Overall the more time you can spend either running training or on a map the better.
Q: What is one thing you really want to work on in 2026?
A: In 2026, one thing I really want to work on is always having a plan before leaving the last control. Too often, I rush into the leg and improvise or plan along the way, but that leaves room for mistakes. By training myself to pause and set a clear route, I’ll be able to move faster with confidence instead of second-guessing mid-run.
