Orienteering Canada's Transgender and Non-Binary Inclusion Policy
The Orienteering Canada Board recently approved a Transgender and Non-Binary Inclusion policy.
The gist of the policy is:
- At both recreational and competitive levels, a Participant is able to participate in either their sex assigned at birth or the gender category in which they identify or choose in the case of a non-binary Participant.
- If an event held in Canada falls under the jurisdiction of a different organizations (for instance the IOF), the policy of that organization will apply. For instance, the IOF's policy will supercede this policy for World Ranking Events.
- Canadian orienteering clubs and associations should refer to Participants by their lived names and pronouns. If an event has an announcer, the event organizers should ask for preferred pronouns on the registration form, to allow the announcer to use the correct pronoun for the Participant.
