Marilyn Edmunds
Inducted in 2022 | Order of Orienteering Canada
Marilyn Edmunds has played an integral role in the Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering Club (EOOC) for four decades. Marilyn has served on the EOOC executive for 32 years, in many different portfolios. She started as equipment manager, then moved to promotion coordinator and helped increase club membership with many new initiatives. Marilyn also served as event coordinator, and then transitioned to membership coordinator, a role that she has carried out meticulously. She knows most EOOC member by name and she personally welcomes new members and immediately slots them into easy roles at park meets to help them make friends. As communications coordinator, she has been instrumental in making EOOC members feel informed. Marilyn also has many hours of practical experience coaching orienteering and is a resource person for all aspects of the sport. She helped develop a park meet organizers’ manual and helped with training courses to standardize the quality of city events. She remains closely involved with club activities; it is incredibly rare to arrive at an event and not see Marilyn working at Registration/Start/Beginners’ clinics etc. She always knows what needs to be done, and is one of the first volunteers to arrive and last to leave. And after ensuring everyone else has started, she heads out on her own course, in her age-category in events up to and including World Masters, serving as a role model of a life-long orienteer.
